Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to take off my shoes?
We ask that you take off your shoes when using a cushion, but if you are sitting on a chair, it is not required.
Do I need to wear certain clothing?
Nope. Wear whatever works for you. If you prefer to sit on a cushion or mat, comfortable clothes may be more pleasant.
Do I need to bring something to sit on?
Chairs and meditation cushions will be available; however, feel free to bring a mat, blocks, or other items that will help make your meditation practice comfortable.
Do I have to go to the meditation instruction?
We encourage individuals who have had no prior meditation experience to attend, but the meditation instruction is optional. We simply offer instruction as a courtesy to all participants who are interested.
Do I have to sit the whole time?
Beginning late or leaving early is perfectly okay. We want to be flexible to your schedule. Nonetheless, we prefer that participants come and go quietly and respectfully in order to minimize distraction. During silent meditation a bell will ring after 15 minutes to provide participants structured space to move if they would like.
Where can I park?
Nearby meter and campus parking is free at this time of day. There is a UIUC lot behind Davenport Hall or street parking.
